Charleston, SC

Hello All!!! I know, I know…..I forgot to make a blog entry for Ponte Verde and I am sorry. I got so busy with the tournament that it slipped my mind. Anyway, I am headed to Charleston next and I love playing there. Over the years I have had some great times there and made some amazing friends and I can’t wait to see them. I have been working on some aspects of my game and I am hopeful I can get back on track this week. Be sure to keep the great questions coming and I will continue to try and answer them as fast as I can. Thanks again to all you great fans for your support!

P.S. I still need some fans to step up and show me how creative you can be and make a facebook and or myspace page that goes with the theme of my website. I would like to have a contest and the winner will have their fan page linked to my site as the official Bethanie Mattek facebook/myspace fan page. Drop me a line if you are interested.

    Hi Bethanie,

I love the layout of your site…very easy to navigate and fan friendly.

I just had a few questions: What are your tennis goal for 2009? Singles and doubles? Do you have a regular doubles partner?

I read that you do have a few friends on the tour. So do you guys hang out..like go eat together ot shop with the friends. Is Sania Mirza one of your closer friends on the tour?

Do you have a regualr coach/trainer with you?

Lastly I think you have a great draw at Charleston..hoping you can get to quarterfinals or better..

    take care

the ultimate goal is number 1, but i need to keep climbing in order to get there. My goal for this year is to play the best that I can and hope it takes me to the top both in singles and doubles. Nadia Petrova and I are playing together right now, but I have to see if we will stay together for the European swing as I know she has already committed to someone else. I am trying to get a hold of Sania to see if she wants to play again in Europe so if i don’t play with Nadia i would like to try and team up with Sania again. I do have a regular physical trainer, but not a full time coach at this point as I still have not figured out how I want to incorporate that. Thanks for the questions.

Hello Bethanie Mattek-Sands!!! A message from Ivan your old-new fan! Why old? Because i know about you from one sda newspaper-2000! Why new? Because now, you know about me. Little more about me. I am Ivan Seizov from Bulgaria. Born on 26.March.1972. Seventh-day Adventist! After so many years of difficulties i can right now to Contact (touch-through your website) One of my Dreams! Which is One of my Dreams! What i mean: now writing and hoping that some day you will answer to me! By the way, may be i am not the first one who had said to you, but i wanna tell you, that you are Very Special person to me! But this is very long conversation and now i don’t have so much time for it. Sorry! So… that friendship will continue… after your answer of course- i hope!

P.S. I cite:” the ultimate goalis number 1, but i need to keep climbing in order to get there.” My dear sister if you wanna be Number 1, you have to know something: you don’t need to climb in order… YOU NEED TO JUMP OVER THERE!!! Shortly I’ll tell you: I just KNOW HOW… BY! Your br. in Christ – Ivan.

Ivan…thank you for the kind words and I am so happy you were able to finally get a hold of me as it seems that you have been following my career for a while now. Yes, my goal is to be #1 and I wish it was as easy as jumping there and taking it, but I have a tough road to get there and I will hopefully be able to write you in the near future and say “I MADE IT!!!” Thanks again.

Best of luck, do very well

What is your view about third set of 10 points in doubles? I know it has been applied to keep the match short & make it interesting. I don’t like it as i feel that weaker teams can defeat stronger teams if some luck goes their way. I would prefer a normal third set.

Another question, Do you remember any funny incident that happened during your match ever?

The third set can be a good and bad thing. Good if you win it, bad if you dont.. lol! It keeps a faster pace and you are right that some weaker teams could catch a break. However, i just finished my doubles match today and we won the first, lost the second and won the 10pt breaker. I liked it today! As for a funny incident on the court??? Im sure there have been plenty of them over the years. Sometimes if you slip or you miss hit a ball and it bounces off of you or you completely miss and laugh at yourself for it. There are little things that happen all the time but sometimes players try and pretend its not that funny.

My wife, Joy, has just gotten big-time into facebook. She is a runner but loves watching tennis – we were in Miami last week. Anyway, I’m going to see if she wants to take up the challenge of designing a facebook fan page.

Good luck tomorrow in your first round match!!!

Where is your favorite place to play. I know you said you love to play in Charleston, but is there anywhere else? O and when you have all these tournaments are you bouncing from one hotel to the next or do you rent a condo or a house? I think it would be hard to have to stay in hotels all of the time, but heck I don’t know. I know the hotels you would stay are really nice, but still?!?!

    Anyway good luck again!!!

P.S. Those flowers for your wedding were so beautiful. I work at a florist part time while I am finishing my masters and I love that all white look it is so classy!!!

I have a bunch of favorites when it comes to tournaments. Most times I like the cities that I do well in but there are others that are great too. It is a constant packing and unpacking cycle from tournament to tournament. We stay in hotels most of the time, but if you want to sign up for housing you can and sometimes that works out really well for us. I am glad you liked the flowers. It was so much fun! where are you going to school and what are you getting your masters in???

I am getting my masters in Sports Management from Kent State University in Ohio. I really want to work marketing professional tennis players or at the tournaments, but it is so hard to find a job right now. Let me know if you need a personal assistant. I will work for you and do whatever!!! :) Just kidding, but if you really do need one let me know!!! :)

Sports marketing is great and if you are good at it you become a valuable tool for the players. I know you like tennis, but don’t limit yourself in the beginning as you may find another sport that you like marketing better. When are you finished with school? If you have a resume that you are sending out to marketing firms let me know and maybe I can get it to a few people for you.

No problem, I like taking pics with fans! The outfits!?!?! dont get me started on that. You will have to take it up with BEBE as they have been super slow at getting me my match clothes. I have a few things in the works for some upcoming tournaments so look out for a few first time things on court from a fashion standpoint. Thanks for stopping by.

    Bethanie…

The next time you are back in Phoenix…you should have a Phoenix get together!! I live in Phoenix, and play alot at the tennis center out in Surprise..I was hoping to see you play Fed Cup there.

I did get to see you play against Mauresemo/Kuznetzova at Indian Wells…great match!!

So, what are the odds of having a small fan club gathering in Phoenix? Or a fundraiser where we get to hit with you?? I think that could be a blast….(at least for us!)

Good luck in 2009!! I am rooting for you!!

Bryan… thanks for checking out the site and writing on the blog. I would love to have a get together with my Arizona fans as I didn’t realize that I had many out there yet. I think a fundraiser at the Surprise center for my foundation and or charity would be great! I would suggest getting in touch with my agent Steve Webster at CMPR. His info is on my contact page and he would be the one to get that going with you. Thanks!

It is such a wonderful honor for you to be selected to the US Team and get the opportunity to represent our country this week against the Czech Republic and you certainly deserve that honor. Bethanie, I have full confidence in you and know you will represent our country with honor! You were trained for these moments and you thrive on this stage. I will be rooting for you and praying for your team’s success. Now focus this week, like you know how …and then kick a___!

    I love you lots and lots…DAD 

PS I will be able to watch Team USA’s progress on Tennis Channel so please say “hi” to me when you get a chance…and I will blow you a kiss back?

Congratulations on your doubles title! Glad to see you playing with nadia, i’ve always been a fan of hers as well. Just wondering if when you win a title such as this what you do to celebrate, or if you just like to catch up on your rest and recover?

It always feels good to win but as for celebrating we didn’t have time as we had to get back and pack our things and head to the airport. I like to think about the win for a short time, but after a few hours you have to get focused on the next match or tournament that you are going to play.

    Hey Beth!

I’m the kid who was too shy to come up to you at Amelia Island last year and security had to do it, haha. We talke about your famous outfit at Wimbly a few years ago and you told me to look out for your new stuff. ;)

It was cool meeting you again in Charleston last Thursday when whoever was with you told (forced) me to see your site. I really like it and will be following along!! Like I said, you’re the nicest player on tour as well as very talented.

    Best of luck. :)

Christian…thanks!!! glad to know that you actually checked the site out. I am in the middle right now when it comes to outfits as I have been struggling with my clothing sponsor to get me what I want and keep the flare at the same time. I have some things that I am working that should be coming on to the court sometime soon. Keep an eye on the site and check the pics in the gallery to see if there is anything different that you like. Take care….
