Stuttgart, Germany

I know, I know… I have been bad at getting back to everyone and keeping you up to date. I was actually having some computer issues so I can use that excuse this time. Anyway…I am in Stuttgart, Germany at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix and let me tell you IT’S AWESOME!!! This is how all the tournaments around the world should be. By far it has the best food on the tour and they even give us a Porsche to drive around each day if we want to. I decided to play this last minute after the FedCup final which is whole other story. I wasn’t schedule to play so I missed the cutoff date and couldn’t play qualifying so I decided to come here and play doubles with Nadia and practice for the week.

Ah yes…FedCup! the Czech was fun since we came away with the victory. I had a blast over there even though my singles play was not helping us. I was able to put it back together with Liezel and we took it to them in the doubles final. When we were down 5-2 and I was on my 2nd serve at 30-40 I didn’t even realize that we were so close to being out of it. I knew that if we won that point and I held serve that we could come back and beat them which is what we did. I am thankful to the USTA and MJ for allowing me to be part of the team as it all started in Surprise,AZ when Craybas, Oudin and Ditty came up big for us and paved the way to the Czech. Even though I didn’t win my singles matches it was still a great time and we have great memories as a team which is what FedCup is about.

Great job at FED CUP….and for making the finals once again in Stuttgart!!

I was just curious about something…

Do you get any points or Prize Money for FEDCUP or does everyone just do it for the pride of it?

    Was just wondering…

    Hi Bethanie,

We are glad that you kep your chin up and did not give up in the doubles match after having lost the singles. So do you think you might get called up for the finals.

Good luck in Madrid. I see that you play Dementieva in the first round :( Hopefully you can pull it off. Are you comfortable on clay..I know most Americans grew up on hard courts and clay is not their favorite surface..especially the players who grew up in California. Good luck in the doubles too..You guys get to play the top seeds if you win round 1..you got pretty rough draws :(

So did you have a chance to ask Sania to partner her in doubles. I know she is doing well with her partner but you never know if she might be interested.

So what is your next tournamant after Madrid. Please do keep us posted

    So

You need to update your blog more frequently. What have you been doing the past couple weeks ? What did you think of your recent matches (singles & doubles). You’ve had some great wins and thrilling play. Also, share more about your daily training / practicing on the European dirt. Maybe you can’t get an internet connection … or, does keeping up a blog becomes a drag ? Your style of play and charisma are grossly under-rated. You could be a marketing machine (with a little help). Forget the crazy outfits. Your persona comes crashing through. Your agent / manager / publicist is asleep at the wheel. Looking forward to heaering from you and good luck in Paris.

    Hey Bethanie,

I want to congratulate you for your recent doubles success with Nadia. You guys did an amazing job and your doubles match against Venus and Serena at the French Open was one of the most stunning doubles match I’ve seen. I was on my seat the whole time watching my three favorite players and another player I like play against each other but I was very proud that you guys fought and got the win.

Even though you had some tough luck in Birmingham, I still have high hopes for you at Wimbledon. You did outstanding last year and hopefully this will be the pick up point for the rest of your year. Stay positive and I know you’ll kick some ass. By the way, I read your Q&A on Sports Illustrated and its cool that you went hunting in Africa!! Were you ever nervous about the big animals that you encounter? Thats enough blabbing for today.

    - Matt

Hey Bethanie, I´m a big fan of yours. What is going wrong with your game?? I saw that you lost your last six matches. Well, I am sure that it´ll get better on the hardcourts in the summer. Wish U the best luck. But, I must say that you have had a terrific doubles season so far. You won three Premier tournaments. That´s nice!!! Oh yeah, congrats on your Fed Cup win, you really pulled it through greatly!!
